Egg Foo Young Recipe


Egg Foo Young is a popular Chinese-style omelet loaded with vegetables, protein, and served with a savory brown gravy. It’s quick, delicious, and perfect with steamed rice.

Ingredients


- 4 large Eggs
- 1/4 cup Bean Sprouts
- 1/4 cup finely chopped Cabbage
- 2 tbsp chopped Spring Onions
- 1/4 cup cooked Chicken or Shrimp (optional)
- 1 tsp Soy Sauce
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp Oil (for frying)

For the Gravy


- 1 cup Chicken or Vegetable Broth
- 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 tsp Oyster Sauce (optional)
- 1 tsp Cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp Water
- A pinch of Sugar

How to Make Egg Foo Young


  1. In a bowl, whisk eggs and add bean sprouts, cabbage, spring onions, chicken or shrimp (if using), soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and pour a ladle of the egg mixture. Cook until golden on both sides. Repeat to make more omelets.
  3. To make the gravy, heat broth, soy sauce, and oyster sauce. Add cornstarch slurry and stir until thickened. Add a pinch of sugar.
  4. Serve the omelet hot with the brown gravy poured over the top. Best enjoyed with rice.
